He is best known for co-editing this work, which is regarded as the colony's official history.Walter Makepeace was asked, alongside Gilbert Brooke and Roland Braddell to edit this work. Brooke was a port health officer in Singapore and Roland Braddell was a former attorney-general of the Straits Settlements.This work looks at the history of Modern Singapore since its founding by Sir Stamford Raffles in 1819 as a trading post of the British Empire. There are personal reminiscences of prominent officials and citizens as well as accounts of Singapore's schools, churches, trade, amusements and institutions.
