The Clinical Structures: Psychosis, Neurosis, Perversion. 4. Literature with Lacan. 5. Lacan in the Field of Culture. Conclusion. Glossary. Texts for Further Reading. Index. This volume provides an overview of Lacan s significant psychoanalytic theories. It delves into the various ways in which Lacan made sense of the human subject, discusses the clinical structures of psychosis, neurosis and perversion, and uniquely demonstrates the application of Lacanian psychoanalytic criticism through a detailed analysis of John Fowles s The French Lieutenant s Woman. Engaging with Lacan beyond the clinical context, the book also examines how Lacan s work has been read in the domains of film studies, gender studies, postcolonial studies and deconstruction. Summary:Challenging Authoritarianism in Southeast Asia is one of the first substantial comparative studies of contemporary Indonesia and Malaysia, homes to the world's largest Muslim population. Following the collapse of New Order rule in Indonesia in 1998, this book provides an in-depth examination of anti-authoritarian forces in contemporary Indonesia and Malaysia, assessing their problems and prospects. The authors discuss the roles played by women, public intellectuals, arts workers, industrial workers as well as environmental and Islamic activists. They explore how different forms of authoritarianism in the two countries affect the prospects of democratization, and examine the impact and legacy of the diverse social and political protests in Indonesia and Malaysia in the late 1990s.

Aggiungi al carrelloPaperback. Condizione: New. Sumit K. Mandal uncovers the hybridity and transregional connections underlying modern Asian identities. By considering Arabs in the Malay world under European rule, Becoming Arab explores how a long history of inter-Asian interaction was altered by nineteenth-century racial categorisation and control. Mandal traces the transformation of Arabs from familiar and multi-faceted creole personages of Malay courts into alienated figures defined by economic and political function. The racialisation constrained but did not eliminate the fluid character of Arabness. Creole Arabs responded to the constraints by initiating transregional links with the Ottoman Empire and establishing modern social organisations, schools, and a press. Contentions emerged between organisations respectively based on Prophetic descent and egalitarianism, advancing empowering but conflicting representations of a modern Arab and Islamic identity. Mandal unsettles finite understandings of race and identity by demonstrating not only the incremental development of a modern identity, but the contested state of its birth.

List of Scheduled Caste Communities and statewise distribution. 2. Growth and variation of Scheduled Caste Population in India from 1961 to 1991. 3. State/district level ranking on Scheduled Caste Population in India (census 1991). The Illustrated Atlas of Scheduled Castes of India has depicted a comprehensive picture of the Scheduled Caste Communities particularly the weaker sections of the people of India. As per the Census of India 1991 the Scheduled Castes population constitutes about 16 per cent of the total population of India and 478 communities have been notified under the Scheduled Castes of India. The distribution of population of the caste communities is shown rankwise on population strength in each state/union territory up to district level and the data used for showing the distribution pattern of the Scheduled Castes are recorded from the Census 1991. The atlas has evolved 31 plates which comprise two maps of India six regional twenty four state maps and three maps of union territories. Only one state viz. Nagaland and two union territories viz. Andaman and Nicobar and Lakshadweep and Minicoy Islands are excluded because Scheduled Caste communities are not recorded there. The appendix has included a list of Scheduled Caste communities and their statewise distribution. The atlas has also been enriched by a comprehensive table on distribution and percentage of Scheduled Caste population of each state/union territory from 1961 to 1991. Apart from those there are tables showing state/district level ranking on Scheduled Caste Population of India. 136 pp.
