Aggiungi al carrelloTaschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - 'The Spectroscopy of Xrays' is a foundational scientific treatise authored by the Nobel Prize-winning physicist Manne Siegbahn. This seminal work provides a comprehensive overview of the principles, techniques, and experimental findings that defined the field of X-ray spectroscopy during a pivotal era of discovery. Siegbahn details the methods of measuring X-ray wavelengths with unprecedented precision, a feat that significantly advanced our understanding of atomic structure and the periodic table. The text explores the intricacies of X-ray spectra, discussing the relationship between high-frequency radiation and the electron shells of atoms. It delves into the technical aspects of vacuum spectrographs and crystal diffraction, offering insights into the experimental rigs that allowed for the identification of previously unknown elements. By bridging the gap between theoretical physics and empirical observation, 'The Spectroscopy of Xrays' played a crucial role in validating Bohr's atomic model and the burgeoning field of quantum mechanics.Essential for students of the history of science and physics enthusiasts, this volume captures the rigorous intellectual pursuit of one of the 20th century's most influential scientists. It remains a testament to the era when X-ray research transitioned from a novel phenomenon to a precise tool for probing the fundamental building blocks of matter. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. This work was reproduced from the original artifact, and remains as true to the original work as possible. Near Fine, without dust jacket. "Siegbahn clearly recognized that the only way to lay bare the inner secrets of the atom was to develop X-ray spectroscopy to such perfection that the spectral line produced by every electron transition should be accurately recorded on the photographic plate. Through years of patient and unremitting work Siegbahn and his co-workers . went far toward attaining this objective" (Heathcote, Nobel Prize Winners in Physics, p. 223). Siegbahn's "Spektroskopie der Roentgenstrahlen . translated . as The Spectroscopy of X-Rays . contains many of his school's results, including a chronologically arranged bibliography of these and related advances in x-ray spectroscopy" (D. S. B. 18: 825). The English translation contains a new preface and additions by Siegbahn. Siegbahn: Nobel Prize, Physics, 1924, "for his discoveries and research in the field of X-ray spectroscopy.".

Aggiungi al carrello(22 x 14 cm). VII, 610 S. Mit zahlreichen Abbildungen und Tafeln. Halblederband der Zeit. Drei erste Ausgaben zur Röntgenspektroskopie. - "Siegbahn began by constructing a metal X-ray tube that he and Ivar Malmer used in a study of the K series of heavy elements (zirconium to neodymium). They showed in 1915 that each of the two K lines identified by Mosely (K(alpha) and K(betha)) actually consists of a doublet. To extend Moseley's study of the L series, for which four lines had been identified, Siegbahn constructed improved vacuum spectrometers and X-ray tubes to reduce absorption by air and, especially for lighter elements, by the wall of the tube. He worked with Einar Friman (1916) in a study of the L series for zinc to uranium. They extended the longest recorded wavelength from Moseley's 6 Angstrom units to 12.8 Angström units, and increased the precision by two orders of magnitude. The surprisingly complicated line structure was systematically analyzed in Friman's 1916 doctoral dissertation" (DSB). - DSB 18, 821.
