Hardcover. Condizione sovraccoperta: dj. Hardcover. From the Blue Guides series. The first Blue Guide, London and its Environs, was published by the Scottish Muirhead brothers, James and Findlay, in 1918. The Muirheads had for many years been the English-language editors of the German Baedeker series. James Muirhead began working for Baedeker in 1878 and Findlay Muirhead joined Baedeker in 1887. For nearly 30 years the Muirheads were responsible for all English language Baedekers. They established the Blue Guides following this 19th century guide book tradition. The Blue Guides focus on art, architecture, and history, together with practical travel routes. and context necessary to understand them. This guide of North-Western France is an interesting period publication that was prepared between World War I and World War II. It includes sections on Normandy, Brittany, and the Loire. Fold-out color maps of these regions are included. The book was published with 44 maps in total. They appear to still be present, but we have not confirmed every one. 12mo.
