Hard Cover. Condizione: Near Fine. No Printing Stated. The career of R. J. S. Stevens, organist and composer, spanned the late Baroque and early Romanticism. He kept copious diaries throughout his life, which helped formed the basis for this memoir, written in 1827. Among the reminiscences of musical life in London is an account of the Anacreonite Society identifying John Stafford Smoth as the composer of the club song, which eventually became the tune for The Star-Spangled Banner. 314 pages including index. Dust jacket has a hint of wear at upper corner tips. Lovely copy.

Aggiungi al carrelloPaperback. Condizione: Very Good. Poverty and Inclusion in Early Years Education will help practitioners to understand the experiences of young children who are living in poverty. It examines the potentially devastating impact of poverty and social exclusion on childrens chances in later life, and considers recent policy and practice reforms which have recognised the critical role played by early years settings and practitioners in guaranteeing a secure foundation for childrens future attainment. The book explores the historical, political and legal aspects of policy on poverty and social exclusion, before offering guidance on how practitioners can help to address the inequalities caused by poverty and break the cycle of deprivation. Chapters go on to address the practicalities of working with children, families and agencies to create an inclusive early years environment, and focus on issues including: developing effective partnerships with families collaborating with outside agencies encouraging awareness of different socio-economic backgrounds. With case studies, reflective questions and further reading included throughout to help the reader to apply the ideas to their own practice, the book will be an invaluable resource for early years practitioners, students, and all those wishing to promote social inclusion and tackle the impact of social exclusion and poverty in early years settings. The career of R DJ S Stevens (17571827) lasted from the late baroque to early romanticism. Trained as a choirboy, he was apprenticed at the age of eleven to William Savage, who undertook to instruct him in the Science of Musick. After leaving Savage, Stevens pursued, somewhat unsuccessfully at first, a career as an organist. In 1782 his luck changed when he was elected an organist to St. Michael's, Cornhill. He spent the rest of his life earning his living as a composer, organist, and music teacher whose pupils included the illegitimate daughters of Lord Thurlow, the Lord Chancellor. Among Stevens's works is The Anacreontic Song, which serves as the melody for The Star Spangled Banner.
