Hardcover. Condizione: Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Fair. First Edition. Signed by Author. Light wear, yellowing; a sound binding. Inscribed and signed by the author inside. The jacket has some creasing, tears and stains. "The election is over but who will be President? Third party candidate Jack Parker, a southern demagogue, has received enough votes to throw the decision into the Electoral College and perhaps into the House of Representatives. Shady political deals and sexual scandals rock the country. Ghetto Blacks, driven to despair by unfulfilled promises, are ready to riot. The ineffective candidates of both the Democratic and Republican parties are unable to provide effective leadership. In short, the country is falling apart. And the only one who seems even to be functioning is the incumbent President, a skilled politician, but so complex a human being that the country's fate seems to lie in very erratic hands. Stu Brady, a young White House aide, is caught up in this public turmoil and in the complex and explosive personal conflicts behind the scenes." Illustrator: . Quantity Available: 1. Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. [Association Copy, inscribed by W. Marvin Watson on half title page.] Hardcover and dust jacket. Good binding and cover. Shelf wear. Corner bumped. Clean, unmarked pages. *Autographed by author.* W. Marvin Watson was a World War II combat veteran who ran Lyndon B. Johnson's White House with the protective instincts of a loyalist, the privileged power of a confidant and the efficiency of a drill sergeant. President Johnson did not want to give any staff member the title of chief of staff, but he eventually made Mr. Watson his in all but name. When he arrived at the White House in early 1965, Mr. Watson, a fellow Texan and proud 'Johnson man' by his own description, had been a political ally of the president's since Johnson's successful run for the United States Senate in 1948. In 1964, Mr. Watson had smoothed the way for Johnson's nomination at the Democratic National Convention in Atlantic City, nine months after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Signed.
