Frederick Marryat, officier de marine et ecrivain anglais 1792 -1848, fameux pour ses romans de la mer, mais aussi critiqué pour sa production rapide; Joseph Conrad etait un admirateur de ses livres. Après 1820 Marryat etait temporairement commandeur du sloop Rosario et portait en 1821 la nouvelle du mort de Napoléon de Sainte-Helène à l'Angeleterre. Bref après le mort du l'empereur if fait un croqis du mort, aujourd'hui exosé au National Maritime Museum in London.
