Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Very Good Plus. No Jacket. Hartford: Silas Andrus and Son, 1846. Captain Frederick Marryat (1792-1848), of the Royal Navy, became a popular novelist of (what else?) sea stories, the progenitor of Conrad, O'Brien, and Forester. Although often reprinted, his period works are scarce today. "The King's Own" wa…s his second novel, originally published in 1830. This is a Very Good copy of what Quercus believes is the First American Editionor possibly a pirate. Not in WorldCat or LoC; most often seen are is the edition from Appleton, some three decades later. Brown cloth binding, decoratively stamped; with gilt decorations and lettering on the spine. Clean text; 243 pages. Minimal foxing/spotting; paper quite bright (somewhat stiff to turn, but still firmly attached). There is a penciled signature on the second free endpaper; on the Title Page another owner has signed twice, in pencil and ink. Signatories have the same surname; Quercus postulates that the two owners were related, perhaps father and son. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Hard Cover. Very Good Plus/No Jacket.
