Der geborene Franke Crusius (Kraus) war seit 1554 Rektor der Lateinschule in Memmingen bevor er 1559 eine Professur für lateinische und griechische Sprache an der Universität Tübingen erhielt, er gilt als "Vorkämpfer des Philhellenismus in Europa" (NDB III, 433 nach Zachariades). Der Herausgeber Johann Jakob Moser (1701-1785) aus Stuttgart gilt mit Johann Stefan Pütter als der bedeutendste Staatsrechtler des alten Reiches.
