Translated into English and with an introduction in this edition (a reprint 1911 of the 1st edition 1908) by Sir Frank Marzials. Hardback in overall good condition. Publisher's purple cloth with gilt titles to spine, and gilt decoration to upper board. Brown end-papers. Top edge gilt, others untrimmed. Gently toned throughout with occasional light spotting. Hinges split, but still firm. Moderate general wear to cloth, and some toning to spine. Very good. The first appearance of all three supposedly lost 'Episodes' omitted from the original Orientalist novel, in an English translation with the original French following. Melville discovered the additional material amongst papers owned by the Duke of Hamilton while researching for a biography of Beckford.…
