Lovely text and illustrations by E R Hughes on vellum, brown boards, cream vellum? spine, red lettering. A collection of 50 short stories, each with summary and dedication, many anti-clerical and originally published in the 14th century. Three of the stories are believed to have been Shakespeare's source for Romeo and Juliette.Text blocks of both volumes are unevenly trimmed, clean and free of foxing. Hinges are sound and bindings tight. Book plate of Leonard James Shrubsall Neither has a jacket. Volume 1 - edges of boards worn, spine discoloured, lower front edge of spine has 4 cm split. Overall condition v good. Volume 2 - as for Vol 1, but spine is cracked with significant cracks to both front and rear edges. Overall condition good.
