There are 61 plates in Part 1, including small plates. Part 2 has 43 plates + the colophon at the end. This is an incredible book. This item contains parts one and two of three total volumes. Volume one was published in 1615. Volume 2 was published in 1624. It appears to have been bound for Adolf Schulcken of Geldern (1569-1626), a theologian, professor, and vicar in the Archdiocese of Cologne (1616-1626). This is indicated by the coat of arms embossed into the original vellum covers, containing his name and his titles. Bookplate inside front cover indicates this book also belonged to the library of the Dukes of Arenberg at the Nordkirchen Castle during the time of Maria von Plattenberg and her husband Nikolaus-Maria Franz von Esterhazy-Galantha, according to Christie's Auction House. The Arenberg family were noted collectors of music and rare books. This is an extremely rare item. Second part was [rinted in 1624. VG (Boards are edgeworn/scuffed/smudged; spine has minor cracking at the bottom and rear outer hinge; boards have warped over time and are a bit wavy; ifc has some minor smudging, holes, small stains; bookplate ifc; textblock edges are edgeworn/smudged/scuffed; light dampstaining to the right-hand outer edges of top half of pages 319 to page 347; interior is very clean and in excellent condition, considering the age, but does have some toning and occasional foxing and smudges; binding appears solid.).
