A brilliant cellist, Rex was known on occasion to play musical examples for the students in the class on his cello. This course and its successor (a course on Mozart and Beaumarchais, again taught with Professor Heartz) would become legendary on campus. Light page turning marks on some corner top tips. 4 page corner tips turned down. No other markings in book. Binding is tight.

A pre-eminent copyright scholar, Kaplan co-wrote the first casebook on copyright, with Yale Law Professor Ralph Brown '57 in 1960. His 1967 seminal text, 'An Unhurried View of Copyright,' grew out of a series of lectures on copyright he delivered at Columbia as part of the James S. Carpentier Lectures series.
