Trade Paperback. Condizione: Fine. Allison, Marla - Front Cover Art (illustratore). First Printing First U.S. Edition Stated. 97 Pages. A three line inscription by the author is on the title page. No other marks or stamps and the interior text pages are flawless. This book of poetry is illustrated with black and white photographs of pottery and the families of Laguna Pueblo on most pages. Max Early was born into a tradition of potters and clay. He creates traditional pottery in order to help save the art of pottery making in Laguna Pueblo. When he began to focus on writing, he continued his passion for celebrating his family, culture, language, and the enchanting New Mexico landscape. Honors and awards for Early in pottery include a Fellowship and a Lifetime Achievement Allan Houser Legacy Award from the Southwestern Association for Indian Arts; a Native American Community Scholar Appointment: Office of Fellowships and Grants, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C. Early's work is shown at the Case Trading Post, the Wheelwright Museum of the American Indian; Andrea Fisher Fine Pottery; and the Adobe Gallery, all in Santa Fe, NM; at Bryan's Gallery, Taos, NM; and the King Galleries, Scottsdale, AZ and many more. The artist, a residing member of Laguna Pueblo, Marla Allison utilizes challenging techniques, mediums, contemporary art, and the study of Hopi and Laguna Pueblo pottery designs in her work. These designs are of great inspiration to her and have been interwoven into many paintings throughout her career. Recent book covers and publications include Ditch Water Poems, by Joseph Delgado; The Denver Quarterly (Fall 2013); and Michael Abatemarco's Second Skin, Pasatiempo (August 2013). Allison's work can be viewed at the Berlin Gallery at the Heard Museum, Phoenix, AZ and the Lovetts Gallery, Tulsa, OK. Allison says my art is what lets me connect the past to my future. My paintings are based on the contemporary, which borrows from the past. I paint so I remember where I came from. I paint so others can remember where I come from. I paint to be remembered.
