NO remainder marks. Portfolio of six color etchings created and engraved by Friedrich Meckseper in Worpswede, West Germany between 1982 and 1983. Forward by Per-Olov Borjeson. Painter and printmaker Friedrich Meckseper (1936 - 2019) was born in Bremen, Germany. In 1952, he began his studies at the State Academy for Visual Arts in Stuttgart under Karl Rössing, and at the College of Visual Arts in Berlin from 1957-59 under Wolf Hoffmann and produced his first engravings during this period. His work, characterized by a highly precise, minimalistic arrangements of its constituent elements, has received numerous awards. [Excerpt from Foreword] This portfolio, entitled quite simply "Tire Nobel Prizes", contains six color etchings symbolizing the six fields of achievement for which the Nobel Prizes are awarded; Physics. Chemistry. Medicine. Literature. Peace and Economics. These six graphic prints display a range of fine craftsmanship and subtlety of technique which is the hallmark of Friedrich Meckseper's creative genius as a graphic artist. In this series of six color etchings Friedrich Meckseper's masterful technique has added an intriguingly suggestive dimension to his choice of subject. Friedrich Meckseper's images reveal a central concern with measurement and time but a closer examination leads the observer behind the superficial appearance of the images into a world where simple objects hint at an underlying psychological reality. Man as the measure of things" confronts in the art of Friedrich Meckseper objects which defy reduction to the superficial classifications and labels of a determinist logic.
