This is the first comprehensive list of Danish Diptera since 1855. It is an edited volume involving 50 dipterists from 13 countries. We present evidence that Denmark hosts ca. 5800 species of Diptera, representing 104 families. This figure is also supporte by a species-area curve based on checklists from other European countries. In all, 4361 species are listed as being confirmed members of the Danish fauna, either by their presence in collections or as literature record.
