Very minor wear to extremities with nothing rubbed through, spine gilt slightly dulled, cover gilt bright else very good to near fine with no internal markings. Dust jacket slightly soiled and with a two-inch tear along the rear gutter (but all there). These sketches cover a variety of topics with respect to social conditions, travel, and national characteristics in the U.S. One chapter is entitled "The Silver Screen", which describes the film industry in the 1920s. Charles Merz [1893-1977] was a journalist and Editor of the New York Times (1938-1961). He is also the author of two other books: CENTERVILLE, U.S.A. (1924) and THE DRY DECADE (1931). Howard W. Willard [1894-1960] was an illustrator and graphic artist. He taught at Cooper Union in New York City.
