A scarce and early work on vegetarianism, traced to only five libraries on the OCLC peculiarly published in France, from a series of the publisher called 'Les homes et les idées', Men and Ideas, with the description on the rear cover explaining that the series seeks to make knowledge and current ideas more accessible and affordable, and that everyone might make a small library from it. The title of this volume, translates to 'Vegetarianism: A Philosophical Way of Life: The Chemical-Physiological, Psychological and Aesthetic Perspectives'. The author lays out in the introduction that Vegetarianism might well be looked at from a purely scientific lens in this modern age of reason, but that first and foremost it is a philosophy, and many view it as a way of keeping within a natural rhythm of nature, but he says they deny the aestheticism of it. So he lays the book into a chemical-biological discussion, a philosophical and an aesthetic. He looks at the chemistry of the contents of vegetarian staples, mushrooms, pulses, vegetables, and compares it to that of fish and meat, then in the psychology explores in part the history of vegetarianism, and how it has a strong basis of practice in many older traditions for thousands of years, and uses some psychological experiments and their data. His conclusion is that vegetarian's aims are lofty and ambitious, and their arguments fail in some respects, but if they approach it from the point of philosophy, psychology and biology fail to beat it.
