Hardcover. Condizione: Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Not a book but a 12-inch, 33-1/3 rpm stereo vinyl record, Arhoolie 5034, mint vinyl in a near-mint glossy gatefold cardboard jacket. (Someone wrote the number "086" to top of rear panel with a felt-tip; we have not been able to entirely remove.) This is Cajun music, pretty much all in that 18th Century French dialect. (Members of our own State Department, aware that visiting Louisiana Congressman Felix Edward Hebert -- 1902-1979 -- might insist on speaking the dialect, were known to warn officials in French-speaking countries that they might find the congressman's French "fluent but impenetrable.") But English translations are helpfully provided in the gatefold. Many of these ballads were found on old 78s, or among the collection of Louisiana French folk songs recorded by John and Alan Lomax in 1934 for the Library of Congress. (If you find any of those old Cajun 78s by Moise Robin or Blind Uncle Gaspard, you might want to hang onto them.) Michael Doucet plays fiddle, David Doucet guitar, Errol Verret the accordion. Reduced from $24.
