His father, Josef Benesch (born on March 20, 1850) in Gr. Hyska; died in 1906 in Brno) was a cabinetmaker by trade. Since he also painted pleasant furniture, the boy became familiar with paint and brushes at an early age. Benesch's mother (born on November 18, 1847; died in 1935 in Brno) was named cacilie. She was nee Hersan and came from Kummrowitz, where the young Josef Ferdinand also attended elementary school. He then attended the Realschule (secondary school) in Brno for four years.
