Sie wird von der Angst geboren, sie materialisiert Albträume. Depression und Leid sind Ursprung der geheimnisvollen und absurden Visionen von "vertierten" Menschen und "vermenschlichten" Tieren. Wenn man seine Bilder betrachtet, muss man an "Die Blumen des Bösen" von Baudelaire oder "Der bemalte Vogel" von Jerzy Kosihski denken. Die Faszination an dem Übel und der Unheimlichkeit in Jankowskis Gemälden entspringt nicht ethischen Fragen sondern hat rein ästhetische Gründe. Die dargestellte Grausamkeit in seiner Kunst ist eine große Schau, die Hässlichkeit erregt nicht Abscheu, sie wirkt anziehend. Seine Malerei entspringt aus Phobien und Traumata, aber ebenso aus schwarzem Humor. Turpismus [Antiästhetik] hat hier den Charakter eines Karnevals, derTod ¡st zahnlos und witzig - wie beim mittelalterlichen Totentanz. Jankowskis Bilder sind in ihrer Darstellungsweise realistisch, in ihrer Wirkung allerdings verblüffend phantastisch und fast surreal. Es ¡st, als ob die Jagdtrophäe, die seit Jahren in Großvaters Wohnzimmer hängt, anfängt zu schielen, während der Boden sich in einen Ameisenhaufen verwandelt.
