Hardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. Photo-mechanically reproduced flyer measuring 8" x 11". A small spot and slight toning else near fine. A flyer for the performances of Michael McClure's controversial one-act play *The Beard* held in February at California Hall in San Francisco starring Billie Dixon and Richard Bright. Opening night, February 22, 1967 was a benefit for the ACLU who later helped fight the obscenity charges against the artists. The play was first conceived as a faux boxing poster by McClure who was then inspired to write a play. The drama was first performed in late 1965 and sporadically thereafter, typically resulting in canceled performances or arrests by the police for obscenity. The play won Obie awards for Best Director and Best Actress for the 1967 season.
