Tuttavia non esiste una guida che possa fregiarsi di due nomi più illustri di questi: il grande Bruno Migliorini, fondatore della Storia della lingua italiana quale disciplina universitaria, e il suo allievo Gianfranco Folena (in seguito a sua volta maestro, e professore ordinario a Padova). Due grandi studiosi, uno più anziano e uno più giovane, alleati nell'allestire un libretto rivolto al largo pubblico, ma concepito con rigore impeccabile. Quest'opera, che con gli anni non ha perso né freschezza né utilità, fu pubblicata dall'Ufficio stampa dell'Olivetti nel 1954, ed ebbe meritata fortuna e più ristampe. L'Italia era leader nella produzione di macchine per scrivere e la nostra industria era invidiata in tutto il mondo. Niente di strano quindi che un'azienda così all'avanguardia in quell'epoca si desse da fare per procurare le buone regole della scrittura.
