Condizione: very good. Text by Christoph Blase. Amsterdam : Stichting De Appel, 1991. Orig. green printed wrappers. 26 pp. : ills. 27x13 cm. Dutch & English text. Book design Irma Boom. - This publication accompanied the 1991 exhibition at art gallery De Appel in Amsterdam, one of the earliest international solo presentations of… the Polish artist Miroslaw Balka. Balka's installations and objects often use humble, bodily materialssuch as soap, ash, steel, wood, salt, and haircombined with precise architectural proportions. These materials carry strong emotional and historical associations, referring to trauma, domestic space, and the legacy of violence in twentieth-century Europe. In the De Appel exhibition, small-scale sculptures and spatial interventions invited viewers to experience absence, vulnerability, and physical awareness rather than spectacle. Coming from post-communist Poland, Balka's work reflected a generation grappling with collective memory and the aftermath of war and political oppression. His subtle, minimal language set him apart from both traditional monumentality and expressive figuration. The Amsterdam exhibition helped establish Balka internationally and anticipated his later recognition as one of Europe's most important contemporary sculptors, including his participation in major biennials and museum exhibitions. Condition : very good copy. ISBN 9789073501072. Keywords : ART.
