This led me to examine the entire archive, including many images that had not benn put before the public eye, and consequently to discover a depth and breadth in her vision that made a more profound exploration pf her art and life seem to be a necessity. In producing an exhibition and a book that draw heavily from the raw contents of the archive (photographic prints, negatives, teaching notebooks and correspondance), I have aimed to present a fuller and more accurate picture of her accomplishments as a photographer and teacher than has so far been made, and to provide a glimpse into a life lived with passion, commitment, and humor, but marked more deeply by pain than she would have led anyone to believe".
