Theodor Mögling war Mitglied des Frankfurter Vorparlaments, schloß sich den badischen Republikanern um Friedrich Hecker und Gustav Struve an und beteiligte sich führend an allen drei badischen Erhebungen von 1848/49. Im Gefecht bei Waghäusel am 20. Juni 1849 wurde er schwer verwundet und geriet in preußische Gefangenschaft. Vor dem Mannheimer Standgericht wurde er zum Tode verurteilt, daraufhin jedoch zu einer mehrjährigen Zuchthausstrafe begnadigt, die er in Einzelhaft im Bruchsaler Zellengefängnis bis 1856 verbrachte" (Wikipedia, Abfrage v. 6. IX. 2010). Nach seiner Enthaftung in die Schweiz gehend, gab Mögling seine Autobiographie Briefe an seine Freunde" heraus und suchte während des Zweiten Italienischen Unabhängigkeitskrieges im Sommer 1859 Giuseppe Garibaldi auf. Später nach Württemberg zurückkehrend, erwarb Mögling ein landwirtschaftliches Gut, welches er selbst bewirtschaftete.
