The number of Nativity artisans has more than tripled and where Cochiti, Santa Clara,…and Tesuque Pueblos were the major producers (in that order), it is now Jemez, Cochiti, and Acoma; prices have escalated, particularly among the bet- ter known artisans; a few older artists have dropped out through natural attrition, but a far larger group of younger artists has entered the field. Two new sources have been added to the original fourteen pueblos and tribes: the Yaqui tribe in Southern Arizona and Zuni Pueblo in Western New Mexico, where Claudia Cellición is making Nativities in beadwork. - - Of the thirty-seven artists recorded in this book, twenty-eight are still engaged in the craft.
