Unpaginated. b/w photos, illusts, period adverts. Back of opening and closing cover advert for Fred Watts & Co. Merchant Tailors and Complete Outfitters. Info on the house, first letter large font and decorated. Illustrations framed and decorated. Condition: Cover wear on corners, cover age discoloured, see my pic. Single staple as bound, which has rusted and bled. Centre page loose. Page corners slightly bent. Few age spots, otherwise clean and remarkable still complete and readable. Fair + condition.

8vo. pp [28]. Original publisher's illustrated wraps, lettered grey on the front cover. No date, circa 1890s. Illustrated throughout. Slight soiling and slight staining on covers, otherwise sound, near very good with clean text and plates.

Illustrations of Hawarden on every page in high Victorian fashion. Probably produced as an advertising vehicle for Fred Watts & Co., (Merchant Tailors and Outfitters of London) whose advertisements figure inside both covers. A bit of wear to the covers. It is stapled and the staples have rusted and disintegared leaving all openings loose.

Montin, Webster & Company According to the Doomsday Book, Hawarden was a chief manor and in 1653 the house into the possession of the Glynne family, in whose hands it has since remained. These days, Hawarden will be remembered as the home of Mr Gladstone, whose persona dominated almost every phase of public life. The book is illustrated throughout with photographs taken by H. Reynolds. In fair condition, the boards are darkened with marks to the back cover and the book has come apart from the cover. There are two tears to the top edge of the front cover, two tears and a crease to the bottom edge of the front cover, two tears to the edge of the spine, a tear to the bottom edge of the spine and nicks and a crease mark to the bottom edge of the back cover. The end papers and pages are free from marks and inscriptions There are two tears to the front end paper and the first free page. Will be dispatched carefully wrapped in bubblewrap and a cardboard box.
