Hardcover. Condizione: Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. 1st Edition. A curious little volume of sixteen short stories (fiction, not true crime) originally published between 1837 and 1900. Nigel Morland had once been editor of The Edgar Wallace Mystery Magazine, and had searched the British Museum Reading Room for little-known Victorian crime stories to publish in the magazine in a section he called "Period Pieces". This volume reprints a selection of those stories (taken from the Edgar Wallace magazine, not from the more serious, The Criminologist, another magazine Morland subsequently edited). A few of the names here are recognized - Mrs. Gaskell, Dumas (fils), Villiers de L'Ilse Adam, Chekhov - but most are "refreshingly unfamiliar". Morland provides a preface and a short introduction to each story. Grey cloth boards show a minuscule bump to top of spine, but this is basically a fine copy in a dust jacket which is very good indeed, with slight browning and wear to top edge.
