Dr. Mott's famous work on the breed offers a unique look at the early history of the Boston Terrier and some of the early breeders and famous dogs at the turn of the 19th century. Written from the standpoint of Dr. Mott's "common sense", some of the topics include the history of the Boston Terrier, the influences of some famous early Boston Terriers like Barnard's Tom on the development of the breed as well as other sires and dam. Also included is insight into the formation of the Boston Terrier Club of America and its first written conformation standard, the Boston Terrier as a show dog, as well as how Boston Terriers were bred, trained and cared for in those early days. While the passage of over a century has rendered much of Dr. Mott's advice on breeding and caring for Boston Terriers obsolete, this work will shed considerable light on this wonderful dog breed known as the "American Gentleman".
