'A Lecture on Heads' was first performed by Stevens in 1764, and received immediate success. This satire regards heads and fashion, which parodied the popularity of physiognomy. This edition has additions by Mr Pilon as delivered to Charles Lee Lewis. To the rear is added an essay on satire. Illustrated, with twenty four vignettes of 'heads' by Nesbit, from drawings by Thurston. This is possibly John Thurston, the British printmaker and illustrator. He is known for illustrating many works including James Thomson's seasons. An uncommon printed edition of this famous satirical lecture. In a contemporary calf binding.
