With the bookplate of the Earl of Jersey to the front pastedown. Has the armorial crest and 'Middleton Park' which was where the family resided. This bookplate is likely to be that of William Villiers, the 3rd Earl of Jersey. From the antiquarian library of Christopher Rowe. Christopher Rowe was a schoolmaster in Norwich and then in Bristol. Throughout his career he inspired many to love literature, history and music. He was a specialist on 17th century printer and bookseller, Humphrey Moseley and began his, unfortunately unfinished, PhD dissertation on him. This work comprises of a collection of William Whiteheads poetry as well as his popular tragedy The Roman Father which was first produced by David Garrick in 1750. In a full calf binding with gilt stamping to spine. Externally, worn to the spine and joints. Remnants of tape repair across spine to boards. Loss to the head and tail of spine and to the raise bands. Joints are heavily rubbed. Rubbing to the extremities. Front joints are starting but firm with the hinges slightly strained but firm. Prior owner's bookplate to front pastedown, one of the Villiers family of Middleton Park. Another prior owner's bookplate to recto of front endpaper, Christopher Rowe. Library blind stamp to recto of front endpaper and title page, Birbeck College. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are slightly age toned with the odd spot throughout. Good. None (illustratore). book. …
