Birch.Hardback, circa 1893, published by Frederick Warne and Co., London, rare vintage children's book.Pictorial and patterned boards and spine. Gilt detail to front board and gilt lettering to spine. Some fading and patches of scuffing and discolouration but much of the original colouring is still visible and title is very clear on front board and spine. Signs of rubbing and shelf-wear. Corners bumped and a little torn. Binding holding although crack to front inner hinge and FFEP a bit loose. Page edges browned and some are a little uneven. Previous owner name written in pencil on inside of FFEP. Otherwise page surfaces are free of any underlining, marginalia, etc. though there are odd marks here and there. See pictures for further information. Circa 1893. n.

Corners of fore edges of boards lightly bumped. Front and rear hinges cracked. Lower board slightly soiled. Top edges of pastedowns and endpapers tanned. Botany Prize inscription to third free front endpaper. Overall, the book is in a good condition and is remarkably well-preserved.

This autobiography covers her childhood in England (Manchester) and, from 16, in Tennessee. Very high quality illustrations by Hodgson Burnett's regular illustrator, Reginald Bathurst Birch(1856 - 1943). Contents clean and binding tight. Spine slightly faded, decorated cover bright. Lacks front free end paper. Signature of previous owner on front pastedown.
