Significant rubbing and wear to boards and backstrip. Corners curled and frayed, as are board edges in places. Gilt top edge, which is a bit worn. Half title page is free from binding, laid in. Spine is straight, with some slight play, due to the book's size. No marks in the book.

The subjects were the author's mother (Victoria) and grandmother (Lady Emmeline). Young Victoria published selected recollections in A Young Traveller's Journal of a Tour in North and South America during the year 1850 (London: T. Bosworth, 1852), which is now rare.
