The author focuses on the journey of Lev of Rozmital, a Bohemian baron who embarked on a grand pilgrimage across Western Europe in 1465. Lev's journey, chronicled by two of his companions, provides a vibrant tapestry of the era, showcasing the political turmoil, religious fervor, and social customs of the time. The book delves into the intricacies of courtly life, from the opulent banquets of Burgundy to the jousting tournaments of Germany. Readers will encounter a world brimming with colorful characters, from the ambitious Duke Charles of Burgundy to the formidable Jan of Zehrowitz, a Bohemian wrestler whose strength astounds even the most seasoned Burgundian champions. The author skillfully captures the era's fascination with the miraculous and the exotic, as evidenced by Lev and his companions' unwavering devotion to seeking out and venerating relics across the continent. This book unveils the rich tapestry of medieval European life, where religion and politics intertwine, chivalry and superstition collide, and the pursuit of the holy coexists with a thirst for adventure.
