The firm is 'sorry to hear' that she intends to 'take two volumes' over her book on Henry III, not considering that 'a biography of him could succeed in more than one complete volume. To take him to 1237 in the first volume would spoil the completeness of what we feel should be a one-volume biography.' He adds in manuscript: 'I hope we will not prove too unwieldy.'.

Thin Covered Boards. Condizione: Fair. No Jacket. New Edition. - 166 mm. Red cloth thin covered boards, gilt titling spine and front. Maps, diagrams, plans. Pp. viii, 4, 337, [2]. Cover is well worn with a few minor creases and moderate darkening (patchy grubbiness). Gilt titling is mostly faded on front (the word PARIS is still quite bright). Gilt titling on spine appears much brighter, being only partially faded. Hinges cracked front and rear, book is slowly disintegrating with rear fly leaf completely detached (though still present). Nearby leaves are only partially attached, though all are present. Some gatefold maps have minor chips and tears. Darkened FEP and half title page has the word/name "Bliss" written in pencil and underlined. Most of the book is holding together well with only twenty or so leaves leaves becoming loose at front and rear. Pages 58-66 have many pencil markings (ticks and crosses). A few other sparse instances of pencil markings, mostly faint underlining and some brief hand written words on the back of maps. A lovely old volume with oodles of character. Overall fair condition.
