This should not, however, lead us to disregard the need that exists for dialogue between these cultures of expertise: in art history and visual studies, in literar…y studies and history, and in museums and collections. Interest in the history of photography has increased rapidly in the age of digital images, and many contemporaries have experienced the transition from analog to digital photography as a paradigm shift. Investigating the history of the photographic image enables us to understand this change. The texts in this series seek to address these needs for a crossdisciplinary exchange of knowledge in the study of photography.; die Fotomontage wird in dieser Publikation zum ersten Mal als Propagandamittel im Faschismus von offizieller wie von privater und kommerzieller Seite erforscht. Die Publikation behandelt das bislang höchstens marginal erwähnte Thema anhand von zahlreichen, auch bislang unbekannten Beispielen aus den 1930er Jahren, die in den Zusammenhang kultureller und politischer Ereignisse in Italien gestellt werden. Die analysierten Fotomontagen werden in ihrer historischen Bedingtheit erfasst, die Lektüre der Bilder erfolgt in der Verbindung von politischer Ikonografie mit der Ikonologie als historisch-hermeneutischer Methode sowie der Rezeptionsästhetik. Die Publikation erschließt so den Sinn zahlreicher Fotomontagen in Ausstellungen, in der Architektur, in Zeitschriften und in der Werbung jener Zeit. Darüber hinaus erlaubtsie neue Erkenntnisse zu den Themen und Mechanismen der faschistischen Propaganda.
