Publisher's original brown textured cloth with ornate frames in blind to the front and back covers, and to the front cover a central gilt vignette bust of Naunyn, gilt titles to the spine, page edges waxed red, maroon end-papers. Condition very good plus, corners and spine ends slightly rubbed, spine slightly faded, a couple of spots to end-papers and half-title else contents very clean throughout. Publishers brown cloth backed boards, the covers decorated in blind, the upper covers with central lozenge and gilt profile of Thomas Sydenham in the centre. A very good copy. The first edition was published in German in 1892. Bernhard Naunyn ( 1839 192e ) was a renowned German pathologist born in Berlin.
