Dusk jacket clean front and back, except minor pen indentation, no pen marks. Book block clean. Text clean. Spine intact. The Penang Turf Club (PNTC), founded in 1864 is a hundred and forty years old this year. In its long history, the PNTC has stitched a place for itself in the fabric of Penang's rich history and heritage. we have come a long way since that first race. From the wooden stands with attap roofing built in 1868, the PNTC will soon be housed in an ultra-modern equestrian center in Batu Kawan. What started off as a social gathering for the British elite to sip afternoon tea and drink gin and tonic at the races has grown into a billion ringgit racing industry today. The cream of the horses in the MRA circuit for many years have been housed and trained at the Club. Who can forget the achievements of Champion Trainer J.R. "Doc Rodgers and this might Three Rings, and the legendary Dato' Teh Choon Beng who ruled the "turf" for a quarter of a century and booked a place in the Guinness Book of World Records for his seven winners at the Singapore Turf Club. Dato'Teh's many records in the MRA circuit remain unbroken to this day. there have also been great horses like Bay Dragon, Prince of Lalita, Chummmy's Special, Ultraman, Sir Toby and the greatest of them all, Three Rings, the winner of three Singapore Gold Cups and two Penang Gold Cups. the PNTC's "Hall of Fame" would be incomplete without a mention of the Sung family of the giant Auric Stable who were champion owners in the MRA for a record fifteen times! While it is not possible to catalogue 140 years of events in a mere 140 pages, we hope that this book will be enjoyable reading for all PNTC members and the general public.
