Ludwig Leichhardt is chiefly known as the most important of the scientific explorers of Australia. His lively but detailed letters provide a narrative of his life from student days in the mid-1830s until 1848 when he disappeared in the Australian interior.

Master Tyll Owlglass is the Anglicized name for the German jokester Till Eulenspiegel. Finely bound in lovely Art Deco brown morocco with vertical sets of double gilt rules, five raised bands with gilt lettering, decorative end pages, all edges gilt, wide inner dentelles with double gilt rules. Likely an early 20th c. California binding. Bearing the small leather bookplate of Alfred Sutro, General Counsel of the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company of which organization he had been a director since 1940, and noted bibliophile whose leadership as President of the Book Club of California was indtrumental in its growth. Near Fine, original cloth covers bound in front and rear, moderate toning to end pages and first few pages, two small rubs to morocco at rear joint, prior owner name half-title page.
