After studying art in Paris and moving to England in 1911, this book was his first English commission from Hodder and Stoughton. In 1939, after a career in illustration and stagecraft, once he had become Scandinavia's most famous artist, Nielson moved to California and worked in Hollywood. His collaborations included the enchanting Night on Bald Mountain and Ave Maria sequences of the Disney movie Fantasia (1940) as well as Sleeping Beauty (1959) and preliminary concept paintings for a proposed adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid which would come to fruition some 50 years later. Full green dyed vellum, spine and upper board gilt, t.e.g; silk ribbon ties renewed, bowing slightly. Interior lightly toned (plates excepted), else Near Fine.
