Hardcover. Condizione: new. Hardcover. Nilbar Gueres (born 1977) is a Turkish multidisciplinary artist whose work explores the politics and construction of female identity in relation to geography and religion. The launch of her first monograph, Nilbar Gueres: Who Is the Subject?, published by OSMOS Books, coincides with an intimate first exhibition in New York, entitled, Pink Is the New Black at OSMOS Address including photography, collage, video and drawing. In the series Unknown Sports, Gueres depicts women in their private spaces transforming them, as the artist remarks: "high jumpers instead of window cleaners, sprinters instead of shop keepers, shot-putting instead of holding our siblings in their arms." The artist leads the viewer to reevaluate and reconsider the conventional relationship between women, their domestic environments and public space, sexual politics and the perception of Muslim women in Europe. The Time Needs Changing exhibition questions our geo-politically controlled notions of time. The three artists in this show give alternatives to linear time, which is currently strictly enforced by the power structures under which we live. The works of Cao Fei, Nilbar Güres and the Raqs Media Collective release the shackles of time, and suggest alternative and parallel paths. The exhibition presents a thought-scape that draws from three different parts of the world; China, Turkey and India. The artists explore time through drawing, video, photography, installation and new media. Time is one of the many subjects addressed by the participants of the exhibition. Their works help us better understand our relations with ourselves, as well as those with the world around us. Nilbar Güres questions masculine linear time; Cao Fei offers us greater control in a world where real and virtual intersect; and the Raqs Media Collective liberates time itself in its works that associate memory with different experiences.
