Reading copy only - not a collector of fine books copy. Exterior has a red and gold mill illustration, but the cloth is soiled and has some light staining. Interior front hinge is cracked and the binding is delicate. The heavy card stock with the illustrated poetry is in good condition - and the color illustrations are quite nice.

No publication date [circa 1900], designed in England and printed in Germany. Words selected and written by Nesbit. This is a series of poems with each page also containing color illustrations showing the craftsmanship of the German printers of that time. Book has edgewear and is starting to split at the fold, still a good to very good copy.

Chromolithograph and b/w illustrations by Noakes and Wilde Parsons throughout. Extremities worn, a little soiling. Front hinge cracked, spine cracked throughout, text block and individual signatures loose, held by slack threads only. Toned, some spotting and marginal staining. Still, the chromolithograph illustrations remain undimmed and the book retains its charm. Fair. Jisc LHD lists only St Andrews as holding a copy. An illustrated selection of poems by various authors, including Burns, Coleridge, Shakespeare, Shelley and Wordsworth, amongst others. "Designed at the studios in England and printed in the fine art works in Bavaria." Her musical aspirations having been dashed in childhood following a bout of scarlet fever that left her deaf, Helen Marion Burnside (1841-1923) turned to verse writing, becoming a popular children's poet and a prolific author of rhymes for greetings cards. She also worked as a needlework designer and editor for Raphael Turk & Sons. For quarter of a century Burnside lived with novelist Rosa Nouchette Carey.
