Hard Cover. Condizione: Fair. No Jacket. Bound in modern thin cardboard. xxiv, 176 pp. English language edition translated by John Savage and with a preface and notes by Jean Barbeyrac. Two discourses by Noodt, reflecting on the power of sovereign in ancient Rome and elsewhere, discussing the rule of law, historical precedents, etc. The second explores the liberty of conscience in regard to the law of nature and nations, seeking to demonstrate religion is not subject to human authority. Gerhard Noodt was a Dutch jurist of the late 1600s, early 1700s, who wrote on jurisprudence. FAIR/GOOD condition. Poorly rebound in thin cardboard, with interior hinges, as well as exterior spine constructed of a black cloth tape. This has an old tape odor when the book is opened. Book wrapped in paper and mylar, attached to the covers. Title page with a piece missing from the lower corner. Owner's signature present. Some browning to the upper page edges. Red ink squiggle on page 55. ESTC T44119.
