Cloth. Condizione: Very Good. First edition. A first edition of this very scarce collection poetry compiled by Lord Northampton for clergyman and writer Edward Smedley. This very scarce collection of poetry compiled by Lord Northampton includes works by William Wordsworth, Thomas Moore, Alfred Tennyson and Louisa Costello, alongside lines from the editor himself. Although Reverend Edward Smedley unfortunately passed before the collection was complete, Lord Northampton compiled the work for the miscellaneous writer and clergyman who had lost his hearing. A prior owner has inscribed some further information about the volume in pencil to the recto of the front endpaper. The inscription reads, 'Tennyson's famous lyric Poem 'Maud' published in 1855, was founded on the verses first printed here'. Prior owner's ink inscription to the title page, 'C. W. Moule'. Rebacked in a brown cloth binding. Externally, smart. Lightly rubbed to the boards and the spine, with a tiny loss of cloth near the head of the spine, and to the front board. A little bumped at the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Aside from some light spots to the endpapers, pages are lightly age-toned with the odd spot. Very Good. None (illustratore). book.
