Delafield, Jr. Esq., during the years 1837-8" (Letters i-vii) by J. Burnet [Jacob Burnet]; "Annual Discourse, delivered before the Ohio Historical and Philosophical Society at Columbus, on the 23rd December, 1837" by Timothy Walker, Esq.; "A Discourse on the Aborigines of the Valley of Ohio" by Gen. William Henry Harrison (pages 217-259); "Appendix to the Discourse" (pages 260-267); "A Discourse delivered before the Ohio Historical Society" by James H. Perkins, Esq.; "An Essay on the Origin and Progress of Political Communities, delivered before the Ohio Historical and Philosophical Society, December 22, 1837" by James T. Worthington, Esq.; "A Fragment of the Early History of the State of Ohio - an Address delivered in Marietta, on the 48th Anniversary of the first settlement of the State" by Arius Nye, Esq. Scarce book with a significant essay by contributor William Henry Harrison [Sr.], 1773-1841, who, of course, was the ninth President of the United States but who had the shortest tenure of any commander-in-chief being in office just 31 days from March 4, 1841 to April 4, 1841 dying of pneumonia presumably caught during his long-winded inauguration speech. Harrison gained fame for leading U.S. forces against Native Americans at the Indiana Territory Battle of Tippecanoe in 1811 and the essay was presumably penned during his adjournment to farm life between his defeat in the 1836 presidential election and before launching his successful 1840 presidential campaign with running mate John Tyler. Harrison penned one other Indian-related essay A DISCOURSE ON THE ABORIGINES OF THE VALLEY OF THE OHIO issued as a pamphlet of 51 pages and printed in Cincinnati in 1838.
