Medico, ebbe contatti con Guerrazzi, Montanelli, Garibaldi e si interesso' ai temi dell'emancipazione femminile come testimoniano questi scritti. Anticlericale, alla meta' degli anni Sessanta "Turchetti chiede per le donne il pieno riconoscimento del diritto al governo della famiglia, alla libera gestione dei beni, ad una "adeguata' istruzione secondaria., al voto amministrativo, e ritiene che esse debbano conoscere almeno per sommi capi lo statuto e le norme del codice civile che regolano i rapporti familiari e patrimoniali. Aborre gli insegnamenti ornamentali alla moda, i romanzi corruttori e l'educazione monastica e bigotta, che vorrebbe veder sostituita da 'lavoro moralizzatore e sante cure domestiche', e critica il sistema del matrimonio d'interesse imperniato sulla dote."
