Winckelmann Tradition. Das gilt auch für die Vatikanischen Museen. Die Skulpturen im Museo Gregoriano Profa…no Ex Lateranense konnten in mehreren Kampagnen vom Forschungsarchiv für römische Plastik am Archäologischen Institut der Universität zu Köln erstmals photographisch dokumentiert werden, was die Voraussetzung für eine wissenschaftliche Erschließung in Katalogform war. Jedes Stück erfährt eine knappe monographische Behandlung, genaue Datierungsvorschläge begleiten das typologisch aufbereitete Material, und die unter gleichem Aspekt erfolgten photographischen Aufnahmen erhöhen die Vergleichbarkeit der Objekte ganz wesentlich.
