The volume is an unfinished county history that remains a significant early 19th-centu…ry contribution to local historiography. It aimed to chronicle Essex's history from prehistoric times through the Georgian era, incorporating detailed accounts of parishes, manors, ecclesiastical sites, and biographical sketches of notable figures, all enhanced by accurate engravings of monuments, buildings, and portraits. With a frontispiece, engraved title page, eleven plates, one of which folding, and in text illustrations throughout. Collated, complete. In a full cloth binding. Externally, fading to spine, with bumping to the head and tail. Fading to board edges, with the odd mark. Gutter cracked to front hinge, but remains very firm. Ink inscription to front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, with light spotting and age toning. Very Good. Not Stated (illustratore). book.
