Pp64. 16 colour plates of flies, illustrations of tackle, etc. Staples rusted away and missing hence loose. O/w VG in laminated covers. The same format as the standard Ogden… Smiths catalogue of the 1930s, but with a reduced number of pages and a different cover design. As prices did not change during this period it is difficult to date these accurately. Makes reference to the "Plumage Bill" of 1921, stating that they still had plenty of stock of fly-tying materials. It also refers to a Plug Bait Tackle Catalogue which we have not seen. .

This was not a priced sales list (though it does list patterns… and ranges available from Ogden Smiths), but a catalogue intended for reference. It seems likely that this was the first edition of the booklet subsequently reprinted with the title The Flyfisher's Illustrated Reference Book. It makes two references to the war, stating that while they still had an enormous stock of standard patterns (including "large consignments made in our Croydon works for our overseas trade, but which could not be exported on account of the Board of Trade restrictions"), production of their own "Special Patterns" had been interrupted. .

This would appear to be the first of their catalogues in this format and was one of the earliest to include the sixteen colour plates of flies (343 patterns) which they continued to use in their catalogues and brochures at least up until the late 1950s. .

Published in 1921 or later, because it refers to the "Plumage Bill" potentially leading to a shortage of fly-tying materials. The Importation of Plumage (Prohibition) Act came into force in 1921. The sixteen colour plates of flies used in so many of Ogden Smiths' catalogues are present, displayed two to a page, but they are not used in their numbered order, implying that they had previously been used (in the correct order) in an earlier publication. They are used in their correct order in all catalogues between 1932 and 1957. .
