Hardcover. Condizione: Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Fair. 1st Edition. Accordian folded octavo wth boards covered in light green silk of an all over woven design in the same color silk thread. First edition of Volume II in good condition, with slipcase. The cover is a bit faded and lightly tanned at the corners. It is enclosed in a poor to fair slipcase of green marbled cardboard with cover and spine labels of Red and gilt. End papers of gilt speckled heavy tan paper. The slipcase is intact, although edge worn with a fore edge chip and tide mark at the bottom. the original two edgeworn sheets of thin corrugated paper that protected the book inside the slipcase are also still with the book. The book itself has some edge toning and a corner tidemark on some pages, although on the printed pages rather than the arrangement illustration plates. Preliminary are 16 numbered pages which describe the art and techniques of the Moribana and Heikwa of the O'Hara School, with line drawings. The Preface is by Houn O'Hara, who explains that she finished this first edition of volume II after her father's death part way through, and her intention to carry on his work. Followed by 35 exquisitely colored plates, with descriptive text. 16 plus 35 double pages of plates. Flower Arranging, Art, Japanese flower arrangeing, Moribana and Heikwa, Color Plates, Antiquarian.

Previous owner's sticker on inside lower corner of inside cover page. Pages are browned from age.

And enhancing the beauty often is the vase or planter serving as the base for the arrangement, and sometimes instilling the illusion of a self-contained dream world made up of the plants and flowers within. Clamshell box: 24.5 by 17 cm, and it is 5 cm thick. The book itself is 22 by 15 cm. Title page, preface -- one page facing title, followed by 50 different flower arrangements, with the name of the arrangement and a brief discussion on a left page, the color plate depicting the arrangement on the facing right page. Some scattered light foxing, as can be seen in the copious photos. Otherwise, a special copy of this work with its custom box and all. Custom Clamshell case: Buckram cloth spine, marbled paper pastedown elsewhere. The book proper: Cloth boards, no spine as such since the book is in an orihan, or concertina/accordian format. Silk pasted onto exterior boards of the concertina.
